John
Winter peeked through the window, then another, before fluttering in through the front door. He was doing his best to be silent, sneaking his way up to the bedroom and beaming as he saw John still in bed.
Excitedly, he started to sing as he fluttered around the room.
"Wake up! I'm home! Wake up, wake up!" he sang, letting out a little giggle, then landing on one of the bedposts.

"Fancy," Winter peeped. "Did you eat snails? That's what fancy people do, isn't it?"
no subject
"I did not. But I did get to have dewberry wine for the first time in a long time," he smiled.
no subject
"Yum," Winter grinned. "It sounds like a delicious time."
no subject
"It was rather nice," John agreed with a nod. "And I'm happy the prince invited me to the realm. Perhaps, if I keep things quiet, the queen will never notice."
no subject
"We will be stealth when we visit," Winter decided, nodding a little. "I can be very quiet," he added in a whisper.
no subject
"I know you can be," John chuckled. "Quiet as a mouse."
The kettle began to boil and he poured for tea.
"How are the elves? I haven't seen one since...well, since I quit traveling."
no subject
"The ones I met were nice. Tall. They helped gather seeds for us to plant so there can be gardens," he added excitedly. "Mostly food, but flowers too!"
no subject
John thought about that for a moment.
"I bet it will be beautiful," he said. "It would be nice to have flowers around here."
He thought about that briefly.
"If the goats would leave them be."
no subject
"We should plant many! Then the goats can enjoy them too," Winter said excitedly. "That would be nice, don't you think?"
no subject
"It could be very pretty," he nodded. "What's your favorite flower?"
It struck him, then, asking what Winter's favourite flower was. There were many things he didn't know. Winter's favourite food. His favourite music. His hopes. And dreams.
He'd have to work on that.
no subject
"Bluebells," Winter peeped, not needing a moment to think on it. "What about you? What do you love best?"
no subject
"I've always liked dahlias," he said. "The big kind that the frogs hide in."
He smiled at that, charmed by the idea of the lovely blooms in his garden.
no subject
"We will get some. I will talk to the bees," Winter decided.
no subject
"Maybe with you here, things will grow better," he said.
He devoted himself to breakfast for a momentvandcsoon they had tea, eggs, and bread that wasn't too dry.
"It will be spring soon," he noted.
no subject
"Yes! It is only weeks away now. I am excited," Winter confessed. "I love spring, even if winter is my season."
no subject
"If we're lucky, soon there will be a kid. Mrs Fuzzybum is swelling up," he said.
"And you know what that means," he smiled. "Cheese."
no subject
Winter giggled, sipping his tea and smiling bright.
"It will be a fruitful spring. I look forward to it."
no subject
"With you back, we'll need to go to the market. I don't even have cake," he said as he enjoyed his meal.
no subject
"You had no cake while I was gone?" Winter asked, as though that was the most tragic thing he'd ever heard.
no subject
"Not even a bite," he lamented, making it sound terribly tragic.
no subject
"We will buy cake tomorrow," Winter decided. "A big cake. The biggest!"
no subject
"Maybe not the biggest," he chuckled. "But a goodly sized cake. And other tasty things. You know I'm happy to eat eggs and porridge every day. But you can't live on that."
no subject
"Medium cake," Winter said, settling in with his food. "Or two small cakes... A tiny cake, but daily."
no subject
John chuckled softly and nodded.
"As many cakes as you like," he agreed.
He looked at Winter and smiled, warmth spreading through him.
no subject
Winter ate, but when he was finished he made his way over to John and crawled onto his lap.
